What is the most important in college? Other than classes, exams or group projects, a significant part of the college experience are friendships between students. During this time, we can meet many different people and create one of the most meaningful relationships in our life. However, will they be able to last even after we finish college? To find out, we carried out a survey among students from our three universities.
When asked if they believed they would stay in touch with fellow students after graduation, 64.7% of Polish students said yes, while 35.3% said they don't know. None of the students said no, although some of them seemed unsure if they would be able to keep in touch with their friends even when they will all go different ways. However, the results still seem optimistic as the majority of students is hopeful that their friendship will last even after finishing college.
In Bulgaria, the opinions were more divided. 45.5% believed they would keep in touch, while a slightly higher 54.5% said they they don't know. Again, no one was sure that they will not keep in touch with their friends but this time, more of the students were unsure if their friendships will last, which portrays the concern about possibly moving away and trying to stay connected in adult world.
Lithuanian students were quite hopeful too. The responses showed a perfect split, with 45.8% saying yes and 45.8% saying they don't know, while only 8.3% gave a firm no. Similar to other countries, the majority of the students was optimistic about their friendships surviving even after finishing college, even if they were not exactly sure how. This time however, some of the students said no.
Taking all of the results into consideration, most of the students who participated in the survey are hopeful that they will be able to maintain their friendships, even after leaving college. Some of them are unsure, considering the fact that everyone will go in their own direction and they may be too busy with their adult life to be able to stay in touch, and only a few of them believe their friendship will not last. The survey shows that many people are optimistic that friendships they made in college will be able to last a long time and survive the challenges like moving away, finding a job or any other struggles adults have to face.
To sum everything up, it is hard to give a solid answer for this question but there is definitely hope that if we will continue caring about our friendships and putting the same amount of effort all the time, they will definitely be able to survive really long.

An interesting topic to say the least. I can see why most of these polls have many undecided votes, since it's really hard to pinpoint if the friendship is worth it, or is it genuine. Would like to see what the interviewed students had to say in detail though.
ReplyDeleteI think many people want to maintain their relationships with friends from their universities but want to stay realistic - we don't know what to expect in the future.
ReplyDeleteThe results are totally not what I expected, since I would assume a lot of students are studying a similar field or at least related to one another. I though that would make it a reason to try and keep the friendships going, since it can help out in the outside collage life when we finish. On the other hand it's quite hard to judge if the friendships will last with all the inconsistencies in life.
ReplyDeleteInteresting survey results! It’s nice to see so many students are hopeful about keeping friendships after college, even if the future is uncertain. Great post!
